How do you handle Winning and Losing?

When was the last time you won?

Winning and losing happen every day to all of us.  Sometimes it’s not the outcome that defines you, but how you handle it.  After watching the NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers, it got me thinking about how to both win and lose with class.  LeBron James is the ultimate professional and I admired his humility even in defeat.  On the flipside, the Warriors and Kevin Durant were the better team and deserved to win.  Here are some of my observations on both sides.  Enjoy.

  • Losing (LeBron). LeBron is one of the most scrutinized athletes in sports history and is now the owner of a 3-5 record in the NBA Finals.  On Monday, which was the culmination of his latest loss, I thought he was a true professional.  In my opinion, it was the best basketball he has ever played, but it was still not enough.  He exemplified ownership by taking responsibility for the result and did not make excuses for the loss.  How did you handle your most recent loss?
  • Winning (KD). Yes, the Warriors have a loaded roster and yes, many people are upset about KD joining them last July.  What I observed though, was an outstandingly unselfish brand of basketball that is extremely fun to watch.  Durant took a risk and stepped out of his comfort zone in Oklahoma City to join a star-studded team oozing with talent.  Their adaptation to the addition of KD was spectacular en route to their second title in three years.  How did you achieve your latest win?
