Do you ask good questions?

Would your team consider you the CQA (Chief Question Asker)?  A good leader is someone who asks good questions.  Asking high-quality questions can take your team (and personal) development to the next level.  In the #CJJblog this week, I give you some examples of questions you can ask others and break them up into four separate categories: 1) John Maxwell, 2) Interview, 3) One-on-one, and 4) Bonus Leadership questions.  Enjoy.

  1. John Maxwell’s seven questions to help people grow as leaders

    4. Who do you know that I should know?
    5. What are you reading that I should read?
    6. What have you done that I should do?
    7. How can I add value to you?
  2. Interview
    1. If there were no humans on earth, what animal would you be and why?
    2. How do you like to start your day?
    3. How do you like to finish your day?
    4. What is the last book you read and what was your biggest takeaway?
    5. What attracts you to want to work for us?
    6. Who was the best leader you ever worked with and why?
    7. Can you tell me a story of when you overcame adversity?
    8. What did you do to prepare for this interview?
    9. What have you done?
    10. What have you done that you hope to never do again?
  3. One-on-one
    1. What do you think of our team chemistry?
    2. What are you currently focused on that I can support you with?
    3. How can I be a better leader for you?
    4. Are there any issues you are currently facing that I should be aware of?
    5. What suggestions do you have for me to be a better leader?
    6. On a scale of 1-10, rate me as a leader. (if not a 10) How can I become a 10?
  4. Bonus Leadership Questions
    1. What should we focus on this week?
    2. Is there anyone on the team struggling?  How can we help support them?
    3. What should we keep doing/stop doing/start doing?
