How did Aaron Rai win the 108th PGA Championship?
Sports have a way of reminding us just when we may be thinking we’ve seen it all… We haven’t. This same phenomenon happened last weekend at the PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club in Newtown Square, PA. At 290-1 odds, Aaron Rai became the first English born player in 107 years to win the tournament. Proving that really big dreams do, in fact, come true. In the #CJJblog this week, I use Rai as motivation and give you my seven reasons why big dreams do come true.
- Show up. The best ability is availability. Do you show up, even when things don’t go your way? Aaron Rai kept on teeing it up and he was rewarded.
- Effort. Are you putting in the work, even when the desired results are not present? Are you willing to do whatever it takes to accomplish your dream?
- Visualization. Aaron Rai has said before that he is big on visualization. Do you imagine yourself experiencing success? What will your world look like after your dream comes true?
- Willingness. Do you have the willingness to go above and beyond to beat the odds? Even in Rai’s case, Aronimink Golf Club traditionally favors the long hitters. Yet, he overcame his weakness (291 yd average, 151st on PGA Tour) with precision and accuracy.
- Competitive Greatness. Do you perform your best when your best is needed? With a 6-under score on the final ten holes, I’d say Aaron Rai certainly did.
- Calm. Do you stay calm under pressure? Or do you crack when the lights are bright? Even when Rai made the 68’ birdie putt on hole 17, he showed very little emotion. He was calm enough for everyone watching.
- Persistence. Your power comes from never giving up. Go out and make your big dreams a reality.
