Global Leadership Summit 2024 – Day One

Have you attended a seminar or conference this year?

As many of you know, I attended the wildly popular Global Leadership Summit last week at Roberts Wesleyan University here in Rochester, NY.  It was two days of action-packed activity and world-renowned speakers.  In the #CJJblog this week, I give you my notes on the speakers from Day 1 and the wisdom I took from each.  Come back next week for my notes on Day 2.  Enjoy.

  1. Craig Groeschel – Senior Pastor and Founder of Life.Church.  You can’t lead people, if you don’t love people.  Average never changes the world.  Greatness is born from extreme focus on a few things.  You make proper assessments with: 1) Focus, 2) Care, and 3) Commitment.  You grow more from your “No’s” than your “Yes’s.”  Create a To-Don’t List.  You can find what you love by asking yourself: 1) What do I love irrationally? 2) What breaks my heart? And 3) What drives me crazy?
  2. Kindra Hall – Storytelling Expert.  In order to tell good stories, you must:
    1. Find the story – Make a list of things you value, people who have impacted your life, and stories with a great action step. Keep a story journal.
    2. Craft the story – 1) Identify the main character, 2)Share their struggles, 3) Set the scene in great detail, and 4) Detail how they overcame their struggle.
    3. Tell the story – 1) Create curiosity, 2) Make the middle the messy part, 3) Conclusion is how they overcame that mess.
  3. Mike “Coach K” Krzyzewski – Duke Men’s Basketball Coach 1980-2022.  Four A’s of Leadership: 1) Agility (make a read), 2) Adaptability (be flexible with communication voices), 3) Accountability (great teams build trust, so they can tell each other the truth), and 4) Attitude (leaders create standards).
  4. Molly Fletcher – Former Top Sports Agent; Podcast Host.  Dynamic drive has three keys: 1) Purpose (not about achievement, it’s about fulfillment), 2) Curiosity (ask great questions), and 3) Energy (effective leaders manage their energy every day).

Did You Know?  This was the sixth year in a row that Coach has attended this summit.  You should join him next year!

Life Tip #17:  Attend seminars and conferences to increase your knowledge in your field.
