Global Leadership Summit 2026 – Day One

Have you attended a conference or seminar in your field?

The Global Leadership Summit was last week and while it’s headquartered in Illinois, I attended the satellite event at Nazareth University in Rochester, NY. There were many speakers and events that offered tremendous value to those interested in leadership and personal development. I had so many takeaways and key topics I wanted to share with you, that I couldn’t fit them all into one blog post. So in the #CJJblog this week, I give you part one of my GLS experience. Enjoy.

  • Craig Groeschel. Life Church Pastor.
    • The best leaders see patterns. Repeated behaviors create predictive results.
    • Keys to pattern success: 1) Pattern recognition, 2) Pattern disruption, 3) Pattern creation, and 4) Pattern preservation.
    • Ask yourself: 1) What keeps repeating? 2) What’s consistently missing? 3) What tension keeps resurfacing?
    • Same people + different patterns = different results.
    • To have effective meetings, make sure everyone knows who is doing what and  by when?
  • Vanessa Van Edwards. All about connections.
    • Better questions lead to better answers. Ask a deeper first question. Instead of “How are you doing?” ask “What does success look like for you?”
    • People need inspiration before information.
    • Tell others “I like you” more often in conversation. Use 1) Eye contact, 2) Physical contact, and 3) Compliments.
    • Associate yourself with high performers in your field.
  • Jim Collins. Going from good to great.
    • Combine what you enjoy with what you are good at. Then, figure out how you can serve others with it.
    • To build an effective team, you must pick the right people. What do you look for in a good team member? What ignites your fire?
    • Find NATALIE moments: “Not All Time In Life Is Equal”
      • Windows of opportunity or crisis where high focus is required.
  • Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten. Starting with curiosity.
    • Be willing to change your mind when presented with new information.
    • Courage is something we give each other.
    • If you are right 100% of the time, you are wrong.
  • Kwame Christian. How to negotiate like a pro.
    • The best negotiators adapt, flow, and make adjustments.
    • Three negotiation skills to master: 1) Listening, 2) Curiosity, and 3) Managing emotions.
    • Negotiation path: 1) Acknowledge valid emotions, 2) Be curious with compassion, and 3) Joint problem solving.
    • Use the 70/30 Rule: Let the other person speak 70%.

Did You Know? Coach Jim Johnson not only attended the GLS 2026 event at Nazareth University, but he opened the event with a talk on Leadership.

Life Tip #30: Work harder on yourself than you do on your job.
