How can you become a more effective communicator?

Are you a good communicator?

In life, good communication is key.  Are you someone who communicates well?  In case you missed it last week, I posted one of our recent podcast episodes with communication expert, Brenden Kumarasamy, who outlined many fantastic tips and tricks to improve your communication skills.  In the #CJJblog this week I give you his three simple (five minutes or less) activities you can do on a daily basis that work incredibly well.  Listen to the full episode HERE.  Enjoy.

  • The random word exercise.  You can perform this exercise by yourself or with others.  You pick a random word (ex: Pizza) and talk about it for 60 seconds, using that specific word as many times as you can.  You have the freedom to take it in any direction you want – professional, goofy, informative, etc.  This helps you quickly and coherently organize your thoughts when speaking.
  • Q&A exercise.  Every day, think of a few random questions that you could be asked, then answer them aloud.  For example, if you are in sales, ask yourself “What does your company do?” or “What problems do you solve?”  These questions can be about anything, so feel free to be creative.  This will help you be more confident and prepared when you are on stage actually answering them in conversation.
  • Short video exercise.  Make a simple, quick (15-60 seconds) video on your phone and send it to someone.  It could be a “Happy Birthday” message or some words of encouragement.  Not only will this set you apart from everyone else, but it will also help hone your speaking skills.

Did You Know?  Coach will be delivering his Leadership Keynote next week at the New York State Insurance Reciprocal (NYSIR) 2022 Symposium in Tarrytown, NY.  Coach will be there on both Monday and Tuesday and speaking to the attendees on Tuesday, August 2nd.  You can check it out and register HERE.
