Super Bowl LIX Analysis – What happened?

What were your main takeaways from Super Bowl LIX?

Super Bowl LIX was supposed to be one for the ages.  We expected it to be one of the best Super Bowls of recent memory with the Chiefs possibly making history by winning their third Lombardi Trophy in a row, But, instead we got an Eagles blowout.  For those of you who read my prediction #CJJblog last week, you will know that I was very – very – wrong with my prediction (I picked KC 27 – 24).  This week, we analyze the game from a leadership perspective and give you the five keys that I believe lead to the Eagles victory.  Enjoy.

  • People.  The roster and coaching staff for the Eagles were absolutely incredible all season.  In the Super Bowl on Sunday, their gameplan was fantastic and was executed about as well as any big game team performance I have ever seen.  Credit to the we > me culture they have built in Philly.
  • Coordinators.  Building off the people theme, the Eagles got a great performance from the coaching staff, mainly Kellen Moore (Offensive Coordinator) and Vic Fangio (Defensive Coordinator).
  • Gameplan.  We all thought (myself included) the Chiefs were going to play smart, steady football and methodically move the ball down the field.  Instead, we saw an all-time dominant performance from the Eagles defense.  Hats off to them and their gameplan.
  • Mindset.  Championship players make championship plays and that’s exactly what happened.  While most of us thought the Chiefs would make championship plays, it was Philadelphia who put together a historic season behind Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley.
  • Adversity.  The Eagles actually made the first turnover in the game on Sunday.  However, they bounced back from adversity and recovered incredibly well.  Jalen Hurts (named Super Bowl LIX MVP) was spectacular.
