Do you think Alcaraz will be the greatest tennis player of all time?
Last weekend while we took a break from football, we got to witness yet another Alcaraz-Djokovic thriller at the Australian Open resulting in the 22-year old Carlos Alcaraz winning his 7th Grand Slam Title (youngest ever). In the #CJJblog this week, I sing his praises and give you some of my observations as to why this could be one of the greatest athletes of all time when it’s all said and done. Enjoy.
- Growth. Alcaraz has not only become the youngest to 7 Grand Slam Titles, but the youngest to win all four (US Open, Australian Open, Wimbledon, and French Open) as well. Few know that he recently fired his coach (Juan Carlos Ferrero), but he still gets better every tournament he plays in.
- Focus. Carlos made it very public that his main goal for this season was to win the Australian Open, completing his personal Grand Slam. He accomplished his goal and this level of focus has people (myself included) extremely excited for his future.
- Improvement. Watching him a few years ago was something special, but now it is magnificent. His serve and overall playing strategy is maturing and that is scary. With his work ethic and attention to detail, who knows how dominant he can be.
- Showman. If The Greatest Showman were a tennis player, it would be Carlos Alcaraz. He plays with passion and flair, but has become much more selective with his showmanship on the court. Watch him and be amazed.
- Heart of a champion. He is quite literally never out of a match. Few can say that and mean it. We saw this in the semi-final match against Alexander Sverev, which lasted nearly six hours.
