What advice would I give my younger self?

Do you have any words of wisdom you wish you knew when you were younger?

As leaders striving to grow and improve ourselves every day, our knowledge and skills do the same.  Over the years we develop new mindsets, motivations, and insights through experience.  After reflecting this past week on my journey, I uncovered quite a bit that I have learned throughout my career.  In the #CJJblog this week, I give you 23 things I wish I could have told myself when I was in my twenties.  What advice would you give your younger self?

  1. Gain more clarity on your personal mission.  Why are you on this earth?
  2. Consistently serve others first, whenever you can.  Adopt the We > Me mindset
  3. Take time to respond to others and think about your actions carefully
  4. Be a better listener by focusing on eye contact, asking clarifying questions, and repeating back what you heard
  5. Focus on your daily bookends (starting and ending your day)
  6. Get up earlier
  7. Drink alcohol more responsibly
  8. Be more consistent with your faith
  9. Develop a personal growth plan
  10. Take time to sit quietly each day (meditate)
  11. Be intentional with your personal relationships
  12. Be open to meeting new people
  13. Develop a personal wellness plan
  14. Be respectful to all people
  15. Be clear on your leadership philosophy
  16. Develop a personal finance plan (become debt-free faster)
  17. Journal everyday (start an idea journal and a gratitude journal)
  18. Consistently do something nice for someone without expecting anything in return
  19. Make decisions based on being a positive role model
  20. Make leadership a study
  21. Become an expert in something where others seek your advice
  22. Have weekly calls with an accountability partner
  23. Start a Mastermind Group with other like-minded individuals
