What are the three P’s to building a championship team?

Have you ever built a champion?

When it comes to building a team, every leader wants to build a champion.  What does a championship-level team look like?  Where can you find them?  How can you find them?  It is not an easy task to assemble a group of individuals, get them to come together for the same purpose, and come out the other side victorious.  There is certainly a lot that goes into it.  In the #CJJblog this week, I give you my three P’s to building a championship level team.  Enjoy.

  • Picking your team. You must first clarify what type of people you are looking for.  Other than talent, who will be the best fit for your team?  Be confident in the quality of people you are bringing onto your team.  Talent is important, but quality of the person is more important to building a championship team.  Are they: 1) Hungry, 2) We over Me, 3) Humble, and 4) Service-Minded?
  • Everything needs to be planned out and thought through, no exceptions.  Use the TEAM acronym for guidance. Trust: Build trust with your team…  Effective communication: Be a great listener…  All people involved: Hold effective meetings… and Measurement:  Do the individual goals align with the team goals?
  • Preserve team. Preservation is how you keep your team successful for long periods of time.  Be the CRO (Chief Reminding Officer) of the team values.  1) Clarity on team values and mission, 2) Clarity on the team goals, 3) Personal and team growth goals align, and 4) Teach these values to your team repeatedly.
