Have you watched any tennis lately?
Men’s tennis has been dominated by The Big Three for the last 20 years. Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal will likely go down as the best tennis players of all time (66 Major titles between them), but have you watched the new Big Two? Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have been incredible and being so good so young (22 and 23 respectively), you can’t help but wonder if they will surpass The Big Three. In the #CJJblog this week, I give you some keys I have observed with the world’s current two best players and what makes them so great. Enjoy.
- Changing of the guard. With Federer and Nadal retired, and Djokovic unlikely to win another Grand Slam tournament, men’s tennis supremacy is open for the taking for the first time since the early 2000s. Sinner and Alcaraz are certainly seizing the opportunity, having won the last seven major tournaments.
- Drive. Both of these young men have tremendous drive to always get better and be great. This will fuel them far in their careers.
- CANEI. Constant and never-ending improvement is what these two exemplify. They both tinker with their game and improve on their weaknesses.
- Personalization. Each of these soon-to-be legends of the game is able to be self-aware enough to make the proper career decisions. For example, Sinner recently changed up his whole coaching team, while Alcaraz has had the same group for seven years.
- Mindset. Watching these two play tennis is an honor. One of my favorite things to watch is their emotions and mindset during a match. Every point is 100% focus and they never get too high or low.
- Passion. This drives them to find ways to win and always be at the top of their game. Are you passionate?
Question: With nine major titles currently (Alcaraz 5 – Sinner 4), how many do you think this duo will end their careers with? Over/Under 40?
