Who motivates the motivator?

Who is responsible for motivating you?

As leaders, motivation is a big part of our success.  How are you staying motivated?  What motivates you to motivate others?  Is it intrinsic or extrinsic factors that get you going?  In the #CJJblog this week, I give you some tips on how you can motivate yourself, so that you are no longer reliant on external factors to lead you (and your team) to the promised land.  Enjoy.

  • Who are you?  Do you have a Personal Mission Statement?  Are you and your team clear on what you value?  Make sure you fully understand the core mission of your organization.
  • Promises.  Are you committed to keeping promises with yourself?  What are your daily non-negotiables?  These are things that no matter what you do each day.
  • Comfort zone.  Get out of it.  Period.  How often are you doing something that makes you uncomfortable?  Try your best to do something everyday that pulls you out of your comfort zone.
  • Mindset.  Are you considered a good role model for those around you?  How are you focusing on this?  Be a good leader by setting a good example with your actions.
  • Growth.  Are you feeding your mind on a daily basis?  Prioritize educational and/or motivational content over the traditional social media rabbit holes.  You can do it!
  • Laughter.  Are you breaking out in laughter every day?  It is important to be in a mindset where you can enjoy and appreciate the occurrences of your daily life.  Find ways to enjoy your life every chance you get.
  • Idea journal.  Start one and record your thoughts in it every time a great idea pops into your head.  Do not rely on your brain to remember everything.  You can then build off your thoughts every day.
  • Gratitude journal.  Do you have a gratitude journal?  Write down three things you are grateful for to start (or finish) your day.
  • Life scoreboard.  How do you analyze your day?  If you made a mistake at work, but grew your relationship with a loved one, did you have a successful day?  Assess your life categories (1-10 rating) consistently.
  • Greatness.  How do you define it?  What matters most to you?  For me, greatness is defined by how well I am growing myself and helping others.
