Can you create a holy moment every day?

How often do you create a moment of brilliance?

How would you define a holy moment?  Do you recognize them when they happen?  I recently read the book Holy Moments: A Handbook for the Rest of your Life by Matthew Kelly and it really made me realize how important holy moments are in our everyday life.  In the #CJJblog this week, I give you me book review, thoughts, and some tips on how you can live a more meaningful life.  Enjoy.

  • Holy moment definition.  A holy moment is a single moment in which you open yourself to God. You make yourself available to him. You set aside personal preference and self interest. And for one moment, you do what you prayerfully believe God is calling you to do.
  • Advice.  Make choices that are easy to live with.  Choices that are easy to look back on and be proud of.
  • Consult your future self.  What would the future you think of this decision?  Are the consequences worth it?  A true holy moment involves choices that are very easy to live with.
  •  Question.  What are the ten most important aspects of your life?  1) Health, 2) Marriage/family, 3) Work, 4) Spiritual relationships, 5) Home life, 6) Finances, 7) Friendships, 8) Recreational activities, 9) Communication, and 10) Personal growth.
    • Make sure to have at least one holy moment from one of these categories per day.
  • Exercises.  Everyday you can pray, encourage someone, coach someone, praise someone, and affirm someone.  Be patient with someone who is down on their luck.  Become a better version of yourself.  Catch someone doing the right thing – and praise them for it.
  • Holy moment examples: 1) Give someone a book or item of relevant value, 2) Write a love letter, 3) Clean up someone else’s mess, 4) Pray for someone, 5) Pay for someone else’s meal, 6) Smile at a stranger, or 7) Open the door for someone.
  • Holy moment characteristics:  1) Every act of goodness triggers more goodness, 2) Small and simple, 3) Positive compounding effect, 4) Everyday, you can create more goodness.

Life Tip #6:  You can’t live a perfect day without doing something nice for someone who can’t pay you back.
