How do you develop accountability within your team?

Do you have a team who holds each other accountable?

How does your team hold each other accountable?  Do you talk about it, but the actions are less productive?  Are you leading by example?  In the #CJJblog this week, I give you some tips on how you can go about leading a team of individuals who say what they do and do what they say.

  • Lead by example.  Developing habits where you are acting in a way your team can look up to you is invaluable.  They will respect your actions much more than your words.  You must focus on: 1) Your work ethic, 2) Your Personal Wellness Plan, and 3) Your Personal Growth Plan (be a Learn-it-All and not a Know-it-All)
  • Care.  Do you truly care about your team members?  Here’s how you can do that: 1) Make (and keep) eye contact with others with a smile, 2) Be a curious listener, 3) Hold 1-on-1 meetings with your team members, 4) Grow your team outside of work/locker room, and 5) Delegate responsibilities to grow them as leaders.
  • Mentor program.  How do you set your team members up for success?  Here’s how: 1) Be thorough with your onboarding process and clearly outline company/team mission and values, 2) Align personal goals with team goals, 3) Have weekly check-ins, and 4) Share growth resources with them and support their personal journey.
  • Accountability partner.  Do you have a leadership accountability partner?  Find someone who is like-minded and (ideally) in a similar role to you.  Have weekly calls, discuss your goals, successes, failures, and everything in between.

Life Tip #28:  When people think of a person with integrity, they think of you.
