How do you share your gratitude with others?

Do others know you appreciate them?

Showing gratitude can be very effective in showing others you care for them, but how do we do that?  What are the best ways to show our appreciation for others and what they do for us?  Over my years as a coach and professional speaker, I have both experienced and implemented many tactics that I would like to share with you.  Below are seven tips on showing gratitude.  Enjoy.

  • Always say “thank you”. This seems simple, but many people neglect this basic task.  Do you always say thank you to show appreciation?
  • Follow up. Do this consistently and uniquely.  Sending written thank you notes go a long way in separating yourself from others.  Be creative in your follow up as well.  How do you stay in touch with your connections?
  • Show appreciation. Consistent appreciation becomes the norm and you are recognized as the person who appreciates others.  Appreciation can be shown in many ways and it’s up to you to do it on a consistent basis.
  • Show love. Your family members and close friends need to feel the love. How do you show your inner circle love?
  • Start a gratitude journal. Do you save and store the appreciative items given to you by others?  Creating a gratitude journal or folder will help keep all this in one place.
  • Set gratitude goals. For me, I often set a gratitude goal of: writing three thank you notes to others this week.  What can you get accomplished this week to show your appreciation for others’ kindness?
  • Random acts of kindness. People appreciate kindness the most when they don’t expect it.  Do something spontaneous and caring today.
