Are you a results or relationship person?

Are you a results-driven person, or relationships?

When it comes to being successful, there are many different situations that require different priorities.  Overall, though, are you more focused on getting results or building relationships?  The #CJJblog this week takes a look at both and how you can improve upon your skill set for each as a leader.  Enjoy.

  • Results
    • Measure.  Are you measuring everything and analyzing data on your performance?  As a leader, you should also be measuring goals, making sure both personal goals and team goals are aligned.
    • Metrics.  Daily and weekly metrics should be clear.  Track metrics that directly affect your success rate.
    • Clarity.  What does “Winning” look like to you and your team?  Define it and make it crystal clear.
    • Evaluate.  Reflections and self-awareness are crucial, but also make sure to have daily check-ins with your team members.  How is it going?  What is going right?  What needs to be changed?
    • Review.  Year-end reviews are great to look back at how things went, but you should be assessing your results consistently throughout.  This is also great to reset your goals occasionally as needed.
  • Relationships
    • Trust.  Are you intentional with your trust?  Be direct, your team will respect it.
    • Care.  Do you care for your team as people?  Do they know it?  1) Be visible, and 2) Be the CQA (Chief Questions Asker).
    • Recognition.  How do you praise your team when they succeed?  Do you recognize their special days (birthdays, anniversaries, etc.)?
    • Kindness.  Is there clarity in your communication?  Be clear with what your intentions and expectations are.
