How is your favorite NFL team doing?
My Buffalo Bills have officially entered into a rough patch. What has gone wrong? Do I expect things to continue or will they get back on track? In the #CJJblog this week I give my thoughts on the Bills, observations, and what has gone wrong for them up to this point. Enjoy!
- Be proactive. Not reactive. A lot of the Bills’ struggles seemingly have come from being very reactive to what is going on (both in game and off-the-field). 12 men on the field penalty during a game-winning field goal? Come on. The FG team had plenty of time to prepare and get ready for action.
- Poor delegation. Are the coaches executing their specific duties successfully (ex: Special Teams Coordinator)? Answer: No. Each member of the staff needs to handle their own business much better.
- Decision-making. If you watch the games and know football, you can tell right away that in-game decisions and play calls are not great. Look no further than the most recent Broncos game.
- Discipline. The Bills lack discipline. Period. Penalties and turnovers with this team make it nearly impossible to be successful. Great teams take pride in their discipline.
- Fundamentals. The Bills stray from the fundamentals and don’t do them well at all. Talent, yes. Fundamentals of the game, no. Four turnovers against Denver? Unacceptable.
- Player leadership. On championship teams, the players are the best leaders. In my opinion, Diggs and Allen (Buffalo’s best players) are not great on-field leaders.
- Blame game. Earlier this week, they fired their Offensive Coordinator, Ken Dorsey. When in reality, I think he was just a scapegoat (yes, the offense has underperformed) and the Special Teams Coordinator (Matthew Smiley) was the real person to blame.
