The Art of Reconnecting

Who have you reconnected with recently?

The art of reconnecting starts with you. What is your daily plan for reconnecting and staying in touch with valuable people in your life?  There should be a strategy in place and your execution of this strategy will be crucial on your path toward success.  My strategy has allowed me to reconnect with many people over the years.  I have broken down my strategy into three parts.  As you read them, think of how you can implement them into your life.  Enjoy.

  • Stay connected. Identify those who have touched your heart and stay connected with them consistently. The worst thing you can do is reach out to someone only when you need something. Check in on them and see if they need anything from you. This will give you leverage when it comes time to ask them for assistance.
  • Provide value. Send a video, relevant article, or information to someone who would find it interesting. Sharing information with someone proves that you are not just connected with them for benefits they provide to you. A mutually beneficial relationship should be the goal and providing value is the way to get there.
  • Make it personal. Wishing someone a happy birthday is an example of a personalized message that can go a long way when establishing a relationship with someone. Also congratulate someone if they get promoted, change jobs, or move to a new city. It’s a way to stay top of mind and create a new dialogue with them.

2016 has gotten off to a great start and I have a multitude of speaking engagements coming up. I am also very proud of my boys basketball team as we are off to a great start and will continue to get better as the season goes on.  Lastly, the ten year anniversary of the “J-Mac game” is coming up in February.  Stay tuned for further details of the event and have a great day!

Life Tip #8: Treat people better than how you want to be treated.
